I'm strong believer in the right to buy software once rather than get gouged repeatedly by a subscription. The subscription business model is inherently user-unfriendly for non-enterprise/non-cloud software. I understand that someone needs to pay for consumables — including electricity and bandwidth if there's a datacentre involved — but it's inappropriate to conflate cloud software with applications you run on your own computer.
