Turns out there's at least one person out there who nerds out to the #linguistics of #Cantonese kinship terms and terms of address. Kinship is a bit more complex than it is in Mandarin #Chinese and that's already substantially more complicated than in European languages. (Most contemporary speakers don't really know and/or use the fully nuanced terms though. I certainly don't as a heritage speaker.)
@MLNow My mother used to take me to a #ChineseOpera for company when I was a child but I hated it because I didn't speak or understand the language (& still don't beyond a very rudimentary level) & the because the sound was so "foreign" & unappealing to me. 🤷♂️

She stopped taking me any Chinese opera performances because I was very vocal about not liking it &, unlike my inability to speak #Cantonese better, I do not regret not attending another Chinese Opera performance since.
OBTW, I don't much like attending or listening to European Opera either. 🤷♂️
