A massive Arctic air mass is gripping Canada this weekend, with wind chills dropping as low as –55°C in some regions. Extreme cold alerts stretch from Alberta to the Maritimes — stay warm and stay safe out there! https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/canada-cold-weather-9.7058988
I’m Canadian and have lived in a few places.
I’m not inexperienced in a wide range of different kinds of precipitation.
But *Weather Canada* what can ever you mean by a forecast of “Periods of snow, Risk of freezing drizzle” when it’s currently -12 C, feeling like -18 C with windchill?
What possible kind of temperature inversion is happening at higher altitudes? Why then does the radar look so benign?
Well, I guess we can look forward to a nice icy crust on top of the 21 cm of snowfall in the past day….
A lovely view
crisp and cold
clear blue skies
sunlight reflecting off snow
blue water and ice
about 40 mallard ducks
intermingled with at least least a hundred and fifty white swans
spread out in a long line line,
all the birds bobbing on gentle swells,
along a km stretch of water
out beyond the ice floes.

Eastern Canada is getting a wallop of snow before Christmas 2025. I guess we'll be seeing some #CanadianWinter snow art soon?
On a radiant winter day in Marie Curtis Park, Toronto, a solitary cannon stands as a silent sentinel, poised at the water's edge, overlooking the vast expanse of Lake Ontario.

A bit brisk again, my phone said -40 a few hours ago. But lovely hoarfrost, even on the cat net. #yxe #saskatoon #winterwonderland #canadianwinter
