Rose Lemay has given Canadian indigenous allies a place to start when we ask the question "What can I do?". After working with allies in both the civil service and the private sector, she has a unique, insightful perspective on the issues and ways forward.

Garry Gottfriedsen and Victoria Handford are Canadian heroes in the search for genuine truth and reconciliation. Their book Dangling in the Glimmer of Hope is already a Canadian classic. Buy the book, read it, and pass it on. Even better, buy more than one and share widely.

Otoniya J. Okot Bitek and Iryn Tushabe in conversation about their first novels - We: the Kindling and Everything Is Fine. Novels by Canadian women set in Uganda. Novels I now must read even though I already have too many books on my To Read list. Damn you Ottawa International Writer's Festival.

Just heard Timothy Caulfield talk about issues relating to his book "The Certainty Illusion, what you don't know and why it matters" at the Ottawa International Writer's Festival. Hella importante to everyone on every side of every debate.

The Certainty Illusion by Timothy Caulfield | Penguin Random House Canada

In a world where there is so much conflicting information about how we are supposed to live, what can we really know?

Today's #canadianbooks by #canadianauthors are by well known, if not to say beloved, cooking luminaries.
Jehane Benoit is the Julia Child of Canada; a chef with many books to her name, including The Encyclopedia of Canadian Cooking, and my favourite, My Secrets for Better Cooking box set with Bonus Recipe Cards.
Jean Pare created a series of popular booklets of quick and easy recipes. The very first, 150 Delicious Squares (what Canadians call bar cookies), published in 1981, was such a success that the company is still thriving today. With 6 kids in the house, 30-minute Weekday Meals was a go-to for my mom.

Among other errands this morning, we managed to drop into a local #independentbookstore to support the #Canadian independent bookstore day and I accidently also bought books solely by #CanadianAuthors and less accidently a local #coffee brand.

Another great book from Canadian author Adam Shoaltz. In his newest book “where the falcon flies” he canoed and hiked from Lake Erie to the Artic (North of Labrador)

All his books are quite good if you’re into adventure stories and all his trips are within Canada which makes it even more amazing.

Today's #canadianbooks by #canadianauthors are:
A Book of Ecological Virtues: Living Well in the Anthropocene, edited by Heesoon Bai et al. Please reserve judgement on the word "virtues" in the title of this book, and focus on the words "living well". These writers offer welcome reminders of the peaceful wholeness of human life that exists and can be nurtured. True workable optimism is rare in our times; this collection offers it on every page.
Murdered Midas by Charlotte Gray.
According to the Globe and Mail "In this “engrossing must-read” by “Canada’s most accomplished popular historian” (Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine), the glittering life and brutal murder of Sir Harry Oakes is newly investigated. Murdered Midas is “superior true-crime writing”.
