My wife just saying how she doesn't like #CamdenTown any more.
That's because what made it good in the first place was it was a shitty area and rent was cheap. As soon as a place becomes popular it gets expensive and commercial. It's the beginning of a decline.
Creative people need cheap rent. That's the only thing that will make an area vibrant and creative.
I suppose it's a bit like #AI. You have these corporate types who thing they are oh so smart and know how to extract wealth, but all they can do is leech of other people's creativity. And everything they do is unsustainable and the opposite of what creativity actually is.
So places like Camden town will always be fleeting. They cannot stay the same because there will always be development and rent will always go up. What's left is a parody of what once was, a tourist trap that takes the aesthetic of the edgy rundown area but its a thin veneer over high rents.
That's why the handmade has disappeared and in its place factory made junk from China.
