Purple crocuses unfurling themselves in Cairnhill Woods on the outskirts of Glasgow. With February starting yesterday, there's a real sense in the air that we're now exelerating towards Spring.

The bears of Cairnhill Woods, just outside of Glasgow.

I always love seeing these sculptures whenever I go for a walk in Cairnhill Woods. The dog is much less sure of what to make of them!

Roe deer sculpture, Cairnhill Woods just outside Glasgow.

I love how well this sculpture fits into the surrounding landscape. Not too sure what the scarf is all about, though!

Hair ice I came across this morning on a tree branch in Cairnhill Woods, just outside Glasgow.

Hair ice is relatively uncommon and only forms on dead wood inhabited by the fungus Exidiopsis effusa at temperatures just below freezing.

It consists of very narrow strands of ice crystals which give it the appearance of hair.

This is the first time I've ever seen hair ice in real life!

A very life-like wood carving of a roe deer in the snow in Cairnhill Woods in Westerton on the outskirts of Glasgow.

A recent find for me, Cairnhill Woods is a great bit of countryside on the edge of the city. Dotted in amongst the trees are some amazing pieces of art carved out of wood, like this one.
