New video: Spin Me Round: Commodore 1541 We have another dead 1541 floppy disk drive on the bench today. It is an infinitely spinning drive, so it means that somehow the drive is not booting. But what might be the cause...? https://youtu.be/A8lqB1EEr90 #commodore#c1541#c64#retrocomputing#floppydrive
Anyway… someone sent me a 1541 board to repair. It is a „no boot“ case where motor keeps spinning. The first and most crucial error can be spotted visually! Even if it is difficult. You might wanna google a bit. #retrocomputing#commodore#c1541
This is a Commodore 1541C ASSY 251854 Rev A mainboard. It is from a parts drive, where I took of the servo controller for a different drive, and where the read/write head is dead (typical Mitsumi). #commodore#c1541#floppydrive

Very interesting transformer on this one. It is missing the usual insulating tape. I guess it is not strictly necessary. But it also shows the thin wire on the primary, and the much chunkier windings on the secondary side. #retrocomputing#commodore#c1541
By the way: I added a 1541-II as device 9 to my setup so we can use the Franken-1541 as device 8 for the story disk and the 1541-II hosts the save disk. No more swapping! Yay! #commodore#c1541#c64#retrogaming
