Byōbu – The art of Japanese folding screens

The tradition of kakemono and emakimono is closely related to other forms of Japanese narrative art, such as byōbu (屏風) and fusuma (襖). Byōbu are folding screens that feature painted scenes, often with narrative elements, while fusuma are sliding doors that can be decorated with paintings or calligraphy. Together, these art forms create a rich visual narrative expression in Japanese culture, reflecting the interconnectedness of art, literature, and daily life. Here are some shots of the most remarkable examples of byōbu that I was able to collect during my recent visits to various museums and exhibitions.

Folding screens served as temporary dividers in traditional Japanese open-plan architectural spaces. This pair was inspired by Japan’s most celebrated work of literature, the <em>Tale of Genji</em>, written by Murasaki Shikibu, an attendant to the empress in the early 11th-century imperial court. The novel follows the love life of the “Shining Prince” Genji and delves into the psychological states of his many companions. Distinct episodes are nestled within a matrix of golden clouds and landscape elements. Each screen includes six episodes presented in a nonlinear fashion, capturing scattered highlights of the story.

讓 Byobu 的 status bar 使用 tmux multiline

tmux 在 2.9 的時候支援了 multiline，從 CHANGES 裡面可以看到說明： Extend the #[] style syntax and use that together with previous format changes to allow the status line to be entirely configured with a single option.
