Replacing the Body Shell Rubber Bushings on an Olympia SG1 Typewriter
Over the weekend I made a major push on beginning restoration of the Olympia SG1 standard typewriter I picked up this past month. One of the small issues I encountered was finding four crushed rubber bushings between the exterior typewriter shell and the main chassis at the four corners on the bottom of the machine. [caption id="attachment_55834794" align="aligncenter" width="660"] This black rubber bushing is so smashed you almost can't see it above the silver screw head at the bottom […]@indutny That sounds a bit weird that there were click sounds when you used #Bones #bushings with #IndependentTrucks. I don't use the original washers, but the top washer from the Bones set. This usually works fine for me. If I hear strange sounds coming from the truck, I usually disassemble the truck and take a candle and rub the candle wax on the metal parts of the truck (all aluminum parts as well as the kingpin including the thread). Sound is gone then, usually.
#Pro #tip for #old #skaters...changing both your #deck and your #bushings is probably going to result in a tough workout for your feet and feel very awkward until you get into the new groove of your new setup.
I only did about 40 minutes at the #skatepark this morning because my feet and ankles are killing me so I decided to leave before an accident happened.
Original 1960s era wooden #skateboard The #trucks and the #board are original but the #bushings, #wheels, #bearings and bolts are new.
The board was sanded and stained. The trucks were taken apart and polished We also added grip tape and bolts (instead of screws) for added stability.
The wheels are hella close to the kingpin but the are not touching so there seems to be no risk of friction or wheel bite.
We used #OJ Mini Super Juice wheels (55mm 78a) and #Bones Big Balls Reds bearings.
