This tree burl on an oak is one I check on regularly to see if the tree is still there. I call it the Sasquatch burl and have visited it for over 20 years.

Burls are formed when a pathogen attacks a tree or an insect burrows in and lays its eggs inside. Cell division is accelerated and the tree creates new tissue to isolate the injury and protect itself. These are also referred to as Galls or Boles. Burls are called Burrs in Britain.

Burls are often used to create unique furniture and decorative items due to their grain.

Long ago, we used to do more than just jackbox at the house - We'd do tabletop fairly regularly, some movies maybe, and mix it up with Jackbox and retro gaming.

I'm trying to put together a new crew to get together every couple of weeks on an evening to do some gaming and noms at my place in North Austin.

If you're interested, please DM me - If you have people who are decent (safe, have a form of transport, etc.) in your network, please boost. We'd obviously vet folks because we'd be welcoming them into our home, but not like we'd do full background checks/airport screening. :P

We've got a dining room with 6 seats for games, a breakfast area room that seats 4-5 and a comfy living room with 77" OLED/120Hz for living room gaming, along with a home theater room with projector for movie watching.

Only things to be aware of are that we have kitties, so folks with allergies might need to take a pass, even though we've got HEPA filters.
