Andy Burnham promises "real change" by delivering Starmer's policies with a Mancunian accent
In a move described by ThinkLabour as “totally above board,” Josh Simons has graciously stepped aside to let Andy Burnham contest his Makerfield seat in a by-election.
Simons was one of the key architects of Keir Starmer’s rise to power, but now he is helping to install his successor.

@StrangeNoises Just to clarify my view: #Burnham's policies are transitory. At most he will be be Prime Minister for 3 years, and under FPTP his policies will be ripped up by the Farage government.
However, if he implements PR, the fash can be stopped. There will then be a chance of restoring a rights culture.

I think I have made up my mind on Andy #Burnham.
If he is focused on implementing #ProportionalRepresenation #PR now, as top priority, then I want him to win. He could enable a new politics, and prevent FPTP from gifting ReformUK an unearned majority.
But anything else is just sustaining the corpse of Labour and putting Farage in power. He can sod right off with that. I'd prefer Burnham to be hammered than to win as a tweaked Labour machine.
Within a week, we'll see who Burnham is.
Westminster may finally be about to have the argument it has spent 40 years avoiding. If Andy Burnham returns to Parliament, the political class will know how to cover it. A leadership drama. Who is up, who is down, whether Keir Starmer can survive, whether Labour is once again turning inward. The familiar machinery of Westminster psychodrama will whirr into life.
