The chopping continues. The last piece of the spruce tree burl turned into an interesting sculpture. I’ve decided to call it ‘Schräger Vogel’.
I tried the small Kalthoff carving axe for the first time—damn sharp! Most of the time it feels more like carefully shaving the wood with steady pressure.
I shaped the upper surface almost entirely with the axe, while the underside is hollowed out. This time, I chose to remove all the rotten parts completely, just to see what was hidden underneath.
Slowly, the bird is taking shape—a strange, nesting creature revealing itself from the wood.

I first chopped the loose and rotten parts and afterwards carved this large wooden #bowl out of the #burl formation of a spruce tree. Sideview on larch table and arolla pine paneling in the background. Put the bowls in the deep freezer in order to get rid of worms in the wood.
