We've had Praxis for almost 3 years. He usually hangs out in the living room, where all his toys and perches are.

For some unfathomable budgie reason, he's decided he wants to hang out in the kitchen, which is dim because the light is only on when we're using it. This is only in the past couple of weeks.

He sits next to the air fryer and walks back and forth, looking at things. If given the opportunity he likes to throw the silicon pot holders over the side so they bounce off the garbage can, which makes the lid fly open. More than once I've heard a clunk and walked into the kitchen to see him standing on the edge of the chopping block that's on the microwave, staring intently down at the open garbage can with one eye.

I' had to put aluminum foil over the socket that the microwave is plugged into, to keep him from chewing on the outlets.

Having a bird is like having a perpetual toddler. Always getting into mischief.

I have 2 #budgies, one male, one female.
The female one we found wondering in a garage and she is pretty tame. She jumps on your finger whenever you present it. Then we added a male budgie. It doesn't allow my finger to come anywhere near it and tries to escape all the time. After a while the female budgie seems to have learned she can escape as well. How do you tame a budgie, how do you get them to trust you? We took in this stray budgie and want to do everything to make it feel comfortable

There are times when Praxis is sitting on my hand, beak to face, and he'll look up at me with his tiny little eye and make full eye contact. He'll cock his head and meet my gaze steadily and then give little blinks that mean love. I feel so seen by someone that isn't another human being.

That humans are so blinded by #HumanSupremacy that we insist on looking for intelligent life "out there" when we have it right here on our planet breaks my heart sometimes. What people really mean by that is that they want something that resembles ourselves, rather than celebrating the multitudinous ways life is intelligent in ways not resembling ours at all.

Humans are so self-blinded and full of hubris.
