Zan: “The vote in Hungary speaks to Meloni, who, like Orbán, is trying to weaken Italy and Europe.”

Alessandro Zan, Italian Member of the European Parliament, participated in the 2024 Budapest Pride, which was banned by the Orbán government, an experience he considers emblematic of the narrowing of democratic spaces in the country. In light of the recent defeat of the Hungarian prime minister, he reads the result as a possible broader political signal: “Systems built to stay in power can be challenged when participation grows and civil society is strengthened.”

31. Budapest Pride felvonulás

Budapest, Saturday, June 27 at 02:00 PM GMT+2

*scroll down for English*

Tavaly megmutattuk.✨

Legalább 350.000-en vonultunk fel a “betiltott” 30. Budapest Pride Felvonuláson,🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ a Szabadság menetén. A hatalom mindent megtett, hogy megfélemlítsen, eltántorítson minket, még börtönnel is fenyegetett, de mi nem hátráltunk.💪

🎥A megfigyelőrendszereik élőben közvetítették, ahogy kibontakozik a rendszerváltás utáni Magyarország legnagyobb emberi jogi megmozdulása.🫣🌕

A szabadságszeretetünk és a bátorságunk tavaly meghátrálásra késztette az önkényt.🐓 Viszont még nem értünk célt!🏁

Amíg egyetlen közösség is jogfosztásban él Magyarországon, addig a teljes társadalom abban él!🤬

Csatlakozzatok június 27-én a 31. Budapest Pride Felvonuláshoz is, és fejezzük be együtt a rendszerváltást!✊ Engedjük be a fény és a szabadság levegőjét! Hívjatok meg mindenkit!⛓️‍💥

Pride volt, Pride van, Pride lesz!

****

Last year, we showed what we’re made of.✨

At least 350,000 of us marched at the “banned” 30th Budapest Pride March — the March for Freedom.🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Those in power did everything they could to intimidate and discourage us.🚫 They even threatened us with prison.⛓️ But we did not back down.💪

Their surveillance systems broadcast live as the largest human rights demonstration in post-transition Hungary unfolded before their eyes.🫣🌕

Last year, our love of freedom and our courage forced authoritarian power to retreat.🐓 But we have not reached our goal yet.🏁 As long as even one community in Hungary is deprived of its rights, the whole society lives without them.🤝

Join us on June 27 for the 31st Budapest Pride March, and let’s finish the democratic transition together.✊ Let’s open the doors to the light and the air of freedom.⛓️‍💥

Pride was. Pride is. Pride will be. 🌈

Budapest mayor could face charges for hosting LGBTQ+ Pride march

#AllOut:
My name is Viki and I'm the President of #BudapestPride. I’ve been working alongside All Out and many others for years to fight for #LGBT+ equality.

When the Pride ban broke, we faced smear campaigns, possible jail time, and surveillance – all for trying to march peacefully in our own city.

But then, something incredible happened: hundreds of thousands of people showed up anyway!..

But then, something incredible happened: hundreds of thousands of people showed up anyway! Thanks to the outcry from the All Out movement and countless others, we organised the biggest demonstration in Hungarian history: We marched, we sang, and we refused to be silenced.

Our victory in Budapest gave hope to countless others. And now, we need your help to keep that hope alive.

Authoritarian governments are following the same playbook – using censorship and fear to erase our communities:

#Georgian officials are spreading anti-LGBT+ conspiracy theories

#Bulgaria has banned any mention of LGBT+ people in schools

#Belarus is preparing a brutal censorship bill that could make simply speaking about being LGBT+ a crime.

YOU have the power to fight back. Your #donation to All Out can help stop this wave of hate.

❗️Even #BudapestPride, where hundreds of thousands marched for equality, is still under attack.

❗️Budapest Mayor @bpkaracsonyg is facing criminal charges for organizing it - a chilling signal that no Pride is safe in today’s Hungary.

#pecspride In another city in #hungary the #pride was forbidden by the police, in #Pécs. The organizers still want make it happen. The date is the 4th of october. It would be important to create international attention. #budapestpride #queer #lgbtqia
Please boost!

Orban tries to destroy everything Ferenc Koszeg, who as a child survived the Nazis by hiding in Budapest basements, and who was targeted by the communists for leading a clandestine pro-democracy opposition he fought his whole life to build.

Orban destroyed the rule of law and almost all free means (with the complicity of our governments and above all the EPP). But he hasn't defeated Ferenc Koszeg.

Vielleicht Martin #Schirdewan, @dielinke ?
