The Brunswick Centre in London. The ground floor is made up of cafΓ©s, shops, and a Waitrose supermarket. Above are tiered flats. I can see why its construction was controversial, as it totally doesn't fit the surrounding neighbourhood. But, as least to an outsider, it seems like a vibrant space.

1/2 In passing, out and about in Bloomsbury, saw two of my favourites. Institute of Education by #Lasdun 1970-76 and Patrick Hodginskon's #BrunswickCentre, designed mid-60s. Seeing both in quick succession made the connections clear: each could be extended and repeated, serially, down a spine N-S. The sculptural towers are diff in form -- 'ugly', brilliantly so, in IoE -- drawing on #Hawksmoor I think. #architecture
