I saw a really cool tiny green ute today. No pic, I thought the owner was coming & panicked. 🙄 REALLY tiny. Made my little Subaru #Brumby #Brat look like a RAM.[1]

Could probably fit two eskies in the tray, & two not too big adults up front. Woodford station, for #BlueMountains carspotters.

[1] poetic licence, probably made it look like a Ford Ranger, they're a tad smaller than a RAM, aren't they? Look, it just looked huge in comparison. Trust me. Or not. Help, how do I turn this thing off, it

Good episode of Outside/In dealing with the problem of how to manage wild horses in the Western US - plenty of overlap with the Australian feral horse problem (mostly colonial mythologising, think Man from Snowy River versus colonial expansion into the Western US).

But to some they’re a symbol of colonialism and an ecological nuisance. Host Nate Hegyi visits a rancher on the Blackfeet Reservation, where free-ranging horses have become more plentiful than deer. They’re outcompeting cattle for forage and putting livelihoods at risk. One potential solution? Slaughter. In this episode, we dive deep into the history of eating horses – or not eating horses – and find out why this symbol of the American West is more divisive than you probably realized. Featuring: Craig Iron Pipe, Tolani Francisco, Susanna ForrestLINKSSusanna Forrest has written all about the relationship between humans and horses – from riding them to eating them. The Virginia Range wild horse herd has seen a substantial drop in population because of a fertility control campaign financed by a wild horse advocacy group. There’s some great research from the University of New Mexico that shows how the domesticated horse made its way north from tribe to tribe in the 1500s. You can learn all about how folks can adopt wild horses from the federal government here.  SUPPORTOutside/In is made possible with listener support. NSW puts aerial shooting of brumbies to cull numbers back on the agenda. How did we get here?

For some the brumby is a national icon that encapsulates what Australia is. For others it's a pest that's out of control.

@melissajmills and for those interested: Aboriginal people named these free-roving Australian horses ‘Brumby’, after steeds owned by farrier Sgt James Brumby were left to roam free after he departed NSW for Tasmania in 1804. #Brumby

Repost from Sunday - Attached is a Four Corners episode that looks at the feral Brumby in Kosciusko National Park. I can’t help but see the parallels between climate change deniers and those who acknowledge climate change. It appears to be the right-wing deniers ignorant to environmental damage and science advocates who can see the destruction.

I for one am with the science advocates
