Jehovah’s Witnesses Remove WATCHTOWER Sign in Brooklyn (2017)

In the March 12 edition of Pook-Emu Bee, I shared a link to a story about a proposal to turn the former Jehovah's Witness Watchtower buildings on Columbia Heights (between Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO) into apartments. When the Jehovah's Witnesses owned the building, they had a giant red "WATCHTOWER" sign over their headquarters that was something of a landmark in the "Brooklyn skyline." I remember when the WATCHTOWER sign came down in the late 2010s. While reading more news about what may be […]

I learned that the Jehovah’s Witnesses estimated in 2017 that it would cost $70,500 to remove the WATCHTOWER sign from their former Brooklyn Heights HQ.

Bossert Hotel Work in Brooklyn Heights (March 2026)

I saw new scaffolding going up around the iconic, and now derelict, Bossert Hotel building in Brooklyn Heights. According to Brooklyn Bridge Parents, the new scaffolding is going up so that new new owner, SomeraRoad, which bought the building for $100 million in 2025, can begin work on the facade (I have lost track of how many times it has been sold since the Jehovah's Witnesses gave it up). More interestingly, Brooklyn Bridge Parents reports that "[i]nterior demolition begins in April or […]

I took this photo in Brooklyn Heights (NYC) just after 11:00 PM on August 15, 2025. The recall having noticed that headlights seemed to be growing brighter a few years ago. It turned out I wasn't the first person to notice. This is downright excessive!
