Mitt första försök till Sashiko blev bra, riktigt bra, och nu väntar det på att blir monterat till en väska.

Men medan jag grunnar på hur jag vill ha insidan av väskan, men små fack och kanske en ficka med dragkedja, så brann suget efter mer Sashiko fortfarande och kunde jag inte låta bli att brodera på min hoodie.

My first attempt at Sashiko turned out well—really well—and now it’s waiting to be assembled into a bag.

But while I’m pondering how I want the inside of the bag to look, with small compartments and maybe a zippered pocket, the urge for more sashiko was still there and I couldn’t resist embroidering on my hoodie. Sashiko on one pocket.
And then it hit me - I haven’t shown the back of it yet. So here are some pictures of both the pocket and the back.

I made a hat last year!

In Swedish this is called a kalott. It’s made out of wedges and are mostly worn by men in traditional costumes. But in Toarp it’s also worn by women! Mine is inspired by the gender neutral costume #Bäckadräkten

I could’ve done less with the embroidery, but I’m a helpless maximalist. All of the embroidery is based on blanket stitching. How many ways can you vary one stitch? Lots, it turns out!

My friend Fia is getting married. She has a very folkloric style. The thing in the folklore community right now are these decorated tiara headpieces, called Lad. I got the huge honour to help Fia make one for her wedding!

She designed it but let me have free rein to assemble it. The thing I added from my own mind is the ruching on the back.

Super fun project, and something I wouldn’t have made on my own. All the best to the happy couple!

New gift alert!

My niece is turning one and I want her to practice her grip, to be able to craft herself soon. In order to help her I crafted a fan! It’s inspired by Chinese silk embroidery and circle fans, some of which my brother and I had as children.

I’ve done two sided embroidery, which means all satin stitch and no knots. The frame and handle were assembled separately and then glued onto the stretched fabric. Then I tied it all together with two layers of thread around the frame and a little tassel on the end.

I’m very happy with it, and if she breaks it I’ll happily make another one.
