That's textbook background fascism? You're too cowardly/basic to wheel and deal better funding from central government? Cool, that's a given.
Don't make particular groups have to bear the brunt of it, though!

Oh look, a text by the British Museum itself that claims it's completely okay they own another country's cultural heritage, well I'm sure the museum is entirely objective here!
They even have a carefully worded statement about Elgin acting "with the full knowledge and permission of the legal authorities of the day in both Athens and London".
The legal authorities of that day being the Ottomans, just because one colonizer sold cultural heritage to another colonizer doesn't mean we have to be okay with it.
The museum trustees have no shame and even argue that back in 1816 the colonizers themselves declared everything to be legal. How convincing.
a round of applause??
The British "cleaned" the Parthenon scupltures too invasively, thereby damaging them, and we're supposed to applaud them?!

This is like when the BBC geolocated the Sounds content so "forrins don't listen for free" and just shrink the UK's cultural reach.
South Korea invests in it's culture and promotes it around the world, and we all know what Kimchi is, the UK wants to retreat up it's own arse does it?
Disgraceful and petty, but what do you expect of a Colonial relic?
