I wouldn't necessarily classify 'Bridget Jones's Diary' among my favourite films, or genres, but this remains one of my favourite movie scenes in general, because of how simple and human it feels. I don't think that you can hold any sort of genuine affection towards someone, at any level not just romantic, and ask them to leave the messy, unpolished, anxious, neurodivergent, quirky or sad parts of themselves at the door and only show up as a curated persona that isn't even real.
It's a rare grounded moment, in a genre that very often bases entire plots on the "you should change yourself and fit this surface-level list of criteria in order to be deserving of love" trope.
