This is a vessel I made while in my final semester at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. It is welded and brazed steel. This was my first time brazing, and I found it very satisfying and enjoyable. The technique and motions were like TIG welding, but the behavior of the bronze was like solder. This piece now sits on my kitchen counter and holds wooden spoons, whisks, spatulas and the like.

#gas hadn't been discovered yet!, a paraffin (kerosene) torch and #asbestos blocks used to prop up the workpieces. Further on in the book there is a whole section on repairing #bodywork with #lead rather than filler (bondo)
