Wowee for 23! This #surlyBrewing 2023 Darkness is my kind of #bourbonBarrel aged #imperialStout!
Heavy on the barrel, strong bourbon and vanilla notes with an after hint of dark molasses. More carbonated than the ‘22, but richer overall.
I still hold the 2021 in highest esteem, but this one is Solid!

Founders KBS is a nice oak bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with heavy coffee and chocolate notes. Bitter forward with pleasant after note from the bourbon. Not as heavy as some of my favorites but definitely a repeat pick

One of my favorites, have to compete with my wife for this smooth and rich 2021 with amazing cola notes and vanilla. Luxuriously thick, citrus and dark sugar, comfort food for the soul!
It’s a two-fer #stout Friday!
Entry 1 is Anderson Valley bourbon barrel stout. I guess the “malt beverage” label should have tipped me off. A weak stout at best and hardly a hint of bourbon barrel aging. Overly carbonated, very pedestrian to my tastes. Not sure why the Total Wine staff said it was good.
Entry 2 is Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Imperial Milk Stout.
A respectable milk stout with an oddly sweet overnote to the bourbon. I can’t quite place the nose, but it’s not entirely pleasant. Improves as it warms but will not make the repeat list.
