Bad news the original company #unbound went into administration, another company was formed #boundless to try and rescue it. This has also failed:

The liquidations eliminates any remaining hope for the 238 authors and agents who are owed £657,000 by Unbound, nearly 8,000 customers owed £391,000 for pre-ordered books, and trade creditors owed £829,000 when the original company collapsed in March.

San Francisco’s library patrons are about to lose access to one of their most-used ebook platforms — the latest ripple effect of a crisis shaking the library supply industry nationwide.

The San Francisco Public Library announced that Boundless, its largest ebook supplier, will go offline Dec. 8 after its parent company, Baker & Taylor, said it will cease operations at the end of 2025.

The closure of the nearly 200-year-old distributor has sent libraries across the country scrambling to find new vendors and digital access points for readers.

“Due to the company’s sudden closure, the Boundless platform will end,” the library said in a statement.

Boundless users will be unable to place new holds after Monday, Nov. 17, and must check out any remaining titles by Nov. 24.

The authors of a much quoted Net Zero Australia report have – somewhat belatedly – sought to put…

#Unbound / #Boundless / #NeemTreePress , who lately ran into "trouble" because they "went out of business" and transferred the book rights to an entity which 'disclaim(ed) any legal obligation to make good on Unbound’s debts and describing the disbursement of unpaid royalties and invoices as “goodwill payments”–which, by the way, would not be paid' ... has apparently run out of business?

Hopefully with the rights actually returning to the authors?

If the affected writers had some clarity that for sure their rights had been restored, this would be good news after a fashion.

Bankruptcies of Unbound and Albert Whitman & Co Put Authors Between a Rock and a Hard Place - Writer Beware

A Hellacious Mess: Unbound Established in 2011, UK-based crowdfunded publisher Unbound styled itself the Kickstarter for books and was widely heralded as the next big idea in publishing. Heady words like “disruption” and “paradigm” were tossed around, and the company’s launch garnered substantial positive media coverage. (This blog post from Nail Your Novel provides anRead More

@bookstodon Read a letter from authors affected by the collapse of Unbound in The Bookseller this week:“What Unbound’s demise has shown, to a quite alarming degree, is how little tangible, active advocacy is available to authors in this situation … As authors, all we expected was for our books to be published in line with Unbound’s stated mission – and for their sales and profits to be honestly and accurately reported. Readers simply expected the bare minimum any customer expects from any business; delivery of the product they had paid for.”

Opinion: The Unbound authors' view

The authors affected by the collapse of Unbound deserve real support, honest accountability and clear answers.

Organisers of the (alleged) SCAM Should go to JAIL.

TLDR: #Unbound - the crowd sourcing book #publisher - went into Liquidation / Administration. New company #Boundless (set up by Unbound's former owners) claimed liquidation was to sort out finances and all obligations to customers and authors would still be honoured.

Now they are taking all the money, - including YEARS OF PENDING BACKPAY- not paying Authors and not fulfilling Customer book orders.

Scum.

“If I wasn’t so f*cking angry, I’d laugh”: Boundless delays author payments - Printweek

Boundless, the post-pre-pack reincarnation of crowd-funded publisher Unbound, will delay paying owed royalties to authors until it is “cash stable”, according to The Bookseller.
