Me, I'm not surprised. A lot of my peeps think that they are white. This despite the historical fact that most #Boricuas are a mix of Black, Indigenous and European. "Pure" white Boricuas are like a fuckin unicorn. Yet #racism in #PuertoRico is brutal, and widely accepted. Darker peeps get the booty end of the stick. Light skin folks are on TV, many are rich and generally rule the island. I grew up thinking I was white until I moved to snakes and white folks made damn sure to let me know I was not one of them, and my POC peeps took me by the hand to help me understand why this was. Years later I found out my great grandma was Black, but her family (like many Puerto Rican families) hid her from view. Shit, many of my cousins are convinced they are white, and some of them even vote for fuckin Trump!

Yeah #whiteness is some fuckin shit. Let's get rid of it.
