A friend send me this photo from Northern Saskatchewan, in the Boreal Forest. It is a bog laurel, Kalmia polifolia. It can grow up to 2 ft tall, and thrives, as the name suggests, on boggy environments there. Up there it grows in USDA Zone 2, ie it can endure temperatures as low as -45°C.
