blue paper=blue stuff=blue furnish=blue linen, evidence of late 15th-century opening up of trade with India, an indigo-growing region. By +/- 200 years later-1860s, indigo grown in the Sea Island region of the US southeast provided the blue of British naval uniforms, the rough cotton-linen clothes worn by enslaved people, and the sugar sacks used in Britain and later the US to house the refined product they grew. And of course they grew the indigo as well. #bookhistory #mediahistory 1/2
