Jazztodon artist of the week: Hada Brooks!
From Wikipedia: The "Queen of the Boogieβ was Inducted in the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 1993.
In the 1970s, she commuted to Europe for performances in nightclubs and festivals. She performed rarely in the United States, and moved to Australia. "Queen of the Boogie," a compilation of recordings from the 1940s, was released in 1984. Two years later she left a 16-year retirement and went on tour.
She resumed her recording career with the 1994 album "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere." Virgin Records acquired the old Modern catalogue and issued a compilation of her 1940s and 1950s recordings entitled "That's My Desire.β
In 2007, a 72-minute documentary on Brooks's life, "Queen of the Boogie," directed by Austin Young and Barry Pett, was presented at the Los Angeles Silver Lake Film Festival.

I-Level -- Minefield 12"
We recently watched the docco Record On: New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies on SBS. Itβs worth a watch. Of particular interest was an interview with Arthur Baker, who mentioned that he had been working with I-Level at the time.
I used to love I-Level. Iβve got three of their singles, but has always been my favourite.
Minefield was such a massive tune in its day. The sound of being 17 for me.
I still frequently get the B-side, Number 4 as an earworm. It's been 40-odd years now.
This 12β has the added bonus of having the best mix of their other big tune, Give Me, on it.
I used to live with a cat who would use my records as a scratching post. The sleeve of this record is evidence of that.
