We had already walked through about 4 different chambers that were awe inspiring in their own right before we came into this room. The tour guide explained that the guild that built this palace wanted a room that would wow visitors and convey the wealth of the Portuguese empire, so they created this lavish chamber. The room is done in the mudejar style and is covered with Arabic calligraphy, with medallions proclaiming "God is Great."

The tour guide said that to this day, the Portuguese Government often welcomes foreign dignitaries in this room and treaties are signed here. You can also rent out the room and throw a rave 😜

This incredibly opulent palace in Porto wasn't built to house a monarch, but for Portuguese businessmen to conduct trade deals and adjudicate disputes. This is just a glimpse, but I was awestruck by the size of some of the chambers.
