Anyone giving #Mastodon another go after the current #bluesky... uh developments, I'm happy to report that they appear to have (finally) fixed the issue where the server wouldn't search the fediverse for other replies, so you'd get:
- 0-1 replies on everyone else's posts
- 500 people replying the same thing on your post
night and day difference. that one little oversight made it feel like it was a wasteland, until you asked a question and then a million people seemingly reply-guyed out of nowhere
When you tell people "don't tell people how to behave", you are telling people how to behave.
Apparently theres a new wave of people joining mastodon, and with them a new wave of self-appointed cops "welcoming" them with long lists of mostly fictitious "rules" they need to follow. This is a social media platform, with many different ways to use it. It's fine. Mostly, just try to be decent to other people, just like you should try to be everywhere else.
It's been a while, but it seems that it is probably a good time to visit the #introduction hashtag again and welcome new arrivals from #Bluesky.
Doing an introduction post and even adding a few of your interests as hashtags will make it easier to find likeminded people... I know, not hashtags.. but they do work in this situation. Good luck.
