The 24-acre New Creek #Bluebelt expansion on #StatenIsland can hold 8.5 million gallons of water. It’s a natural & cost-effective way to reduce flooding & another way we’re protecting #NYC communities from the damaging effects of extreme weather. #EvenTheGeeseAgree

I've been visiting one of Staten Island's many Bluebelts. Having lived through several floods, large and small, I find these storm management systems quite fascinating. Natural ponds and creeks are enhanced and added to in order to facilitate drainage during heavy rain.

This brush was growing next to the Bluebelt pond. I was intrigued by the fuzzy spherical flowers (?) on the plant in the center.
