As you, @apc , might know, there are quite a lot of great anime that features unrequited love in a different ways, like Sasameki Koto, Strawberry Panic, Simoun and Cardcaptor Sakura… but I think «Bloom into You» shows this aspect in a most unusual and sophisticated manner.
For Nanami Touko, who suddenly fell in love with Koito Yuu, unrequited love doesn’t mean struggle and rejection — I’d say for both of them it ultimately means mutual trust and acceptance! Both of them didn’t quite understand romantic feelings before, but for Touko everything is changed, while Yuu still remains the same. However, Yuu still wants to catch that feeling somehow… Sounds a bit complicated, but it is what it is!
Yuu is definitely tempted by the queen here.

The four women sat in silence, pondering what had happened. Arisu and Touko seemed to have finally found a place of mutual acceptance, while Yuu and Saeki were trying to follow their logic. Even if the encounter between Arisu and Touko had been #unplanned, it had been an unforeseen boon.
Sarasa-san arrived with their order. “I hope it’s not cold,” she said, setting the tray down. “You were all having such an intense conversation, I didn’t want to interrupt.”
“You see those two girls over there?” Arisu nodded toward Haru and her date. “Take this,” she said, handing Sarasa-san some money. “Bring them a pastry and cover their bill. If they ask who it’s from, say, ‘Someone who wishes to make amends quietly.’” She thought for a moment and then #called after Sarasa. “Oh, and give the athletic one this.” Arisu handed her a paper crane. “Tell her it's for luck in love.”
“I can do that. Enjoy your tea. And if you’re planning on watching the fireworks, there’s a little shrine at the end of the mall. Not many people know about it, but the view’s amazing.”

Touko and Arisu
#RegardingSaekiSayaka #FanFiction (#BloomIntoYou)
Touko thought the question over, giving it the consideration it and Arisu deserved. “What would I do if Yuu seemed interested in someone else?” she muttered.
“I’d talk to Yuu, and if she said she preferred the other person, I’d be content as long as she’s happy… But I’d feel awful.”
Arisu stared. “You would? You’d give her up without a fight?”
“…Yes. I wouldn’t fight it. I’ve spent too long taking advantage of Yuu’s feelings. Saeki’s too. But I don’t want to be that kind of person anymore. If Yuu… if she changed how she felt, then that would be her choice. I wouldn’t stand in the way.”
Yuu silently shook her head. No way was she leaving her girlfriend.
Touko’s voice quavered. “But I never said it would be fine; it would hurt—down to my core. I’d still love her. That wouldn’t change. But I’d carry my pain quietly, for her. Better to bury myself in my career than risk hurting her.”
Arisu looked down, bit one of her knuckles, ignored the hand Saeki offered her, and then responded. “I wish I had that kind of strength. But I don’t. I’d cry, #curse, beg, and follow Saeki around like a stalker—like before. I’d shoot dirty looks at the other girl too. If someone could intimidate her that easily, they wouldn’t deserve my Sayaka. And then... I’d go. If that’s what Saeki needed, I’d have to respect it. I’m not cold like you. I couldn’t pretend it didn’t tear me up.”
“No, you’re not,” Touko laughed with genuine amusement at how different they were. “You’re passionate in a way I never was. Saeki likes that. I don’t think Yuu would, so we’re both well matched.” She paused, then continued. “Maybe that’s why I turned Sayaka-san down. She needed that kind of fierce loyalty. Yuu doesn’t. If I’m tied up in rehearsals, she quietly does her own thing or comes to the rehearsal and reads a book she keeps in her #bag. I could never have given Sayaka what she needed.”
“Arisu?” Saeki asked, seeing her girlfriend’s look of deep concentration.
She responded slowly, thinking about each word as she said it. “So it wasn’t Saeki you rejected; it’s that you were unsuitable.”
If the conversation hadn’t been so serious, either Yuu or Saeki might have laughed at that turn of logic. But Touko answered with dead seriousness, “Something like that, yes.”
“Then you’re forgiven.” Arisu’s answer was just as serious.
“Friends now?” Touko asked.
“Friends.” Arisu nodded. “And I take back that crack about your being cold.”
“Thank you, that hurt.”
Yuu and Saeki exchanged looks, then shrugged. Touko and Arisu were in a world neither of them could fathom.

Touko’s Irony
#RegardingSaekiSayaka #FanFiction (#BloomIntoYou)
Unlike the others, Touko was unsure how much Arisu had grown. She could picture Arisu’s jealousy flaming out of control, wreaking havoc around her. There were plenty of emotive types in the theater, just like her. There was no telling what they would do when aroused. If you said the wrong thing and #bang there would be a scene. A statement Arisu had made on the way here returned to her: “I’ve even forgiven Touko-chan’s poor taste in rejecting you.”
“It’s ironic… You hated me for not returning Sayaka-san’s feelings and hated Haru because she might.” As soon as it was out of her mouth, Touko regretted it. It didn’t answer the question, except obliquely; instead, it sounded like a direct challenge.
Instead of rising to the bait, Arisu pressed Touko with a tough question. “Well, what would you do if you thought someone was going to steal Yuu-san away from you?” Her tone softened what sounded like a return challenge to an honest query.

#BloomIntoYou: #RegardingSaekiSayaka
#LightNovel by Iruma Hitoma
English publication #SevenSeasEntertainment
“Regarding Saeki Sayaka,” is a three-volume collaboration between Iruma Hitoma, of “Adachi to Shimamura” fame, and Nio Nakatani, of “Bloom into You” fame. It is the story of the girl who loses out on love in the classic #Yuri series “Bloom into You.” “Regarding Saeki Sayaka" chronicles her journey as a girl and young woman, her first encounters with sapphic love, her rejection by her high school love Touko, and finally finding love in her second year of university.
This is not a coming-out story, nor does it wallow in “lesbian angst.” It is a story of her early life. It is considered by many to be Hitoma-sensei's best work, featuring characters with depth, realistic struggles, heartbreak, and ultimately, love.
A heartwarming story of the girl who lost out.

“You’re pale as a ghost; what’s wrong?” Saeki asked. The others looked on with sympathy but respectfully remained silent.
“That table… next to the counter. Do you see the girls?” Arisu asked.
“The tanned, athletic-looking girl sitting across from the one with a #rumpled blouse and thick glasses?”
“Yeah, you don’t recognize them?”
“No, should I? They’re not the bullies who were giving you trouble, are they?” Saeki looked from Arisu to her friends. “We had problems with some of Arisu’s ex-friends giving her a hard time. Do you know Ariu Aki? I thought she had scared them off.”
“No, they’re not the bullies. I am.” Arisu bit her lip, her eyes darting between her three companions.
“I don’t understand. You’d never be a bully.” Saeki said.
“There must have been a good reason,” Yuu added.
Only Touko accepted Arisu’s statement at face value. She remembered being bullied when they first met. But that hadn’t gone beyond nasty snark, hardly something that justified Arisu’s current melodrama.
“That’s Edamoto Haru and her girlfriend,” Arisu said, her voice #stiff, so low, that Saeki had to lean in to hear her.
“Right, you said Haru was ‘supposed’ to be my girlfriend.” Touko and Yuu gave Saeki questioning looks. For the moment at least, Saeki didn’t seem to realize how odd she sounded.
“You don’t understand,” Arisu said. “You only saw the time I told you she was cursed. There was more. Things you didn’t see.”
Only Yuu noticed Arisu's knuckles turning white as she twisted her clenched fingers in anguish.
Saeki resumed, “I told you it was all right. I love you and can’t imagine being in love with someone else. I’ve never even talked to Haru, and she isn’t my type. Athletic, she looks like she runs everywhere. So, I’m glad you disrupted this universe. I love only you.” It wasn’t the odd statement that brought a rose tint to Saeki’s face; it was the word “love.” It was so embarrassing to say, even in front of her two oldest friends.
Arisu gave her a weak smile. “It’s not that—I… I… bullied Haru. She must hate me. I told her to stay away from you, slipped nasty letters into her locker, even made creepy phone calls to her house.” She closed her eyes and blurted out, “I spread rumors about her, hoping they’d reach you—dreadful things. I called her a yariman—a filthy slut, a whore—I—I even considered poisoning her.”
“But you didn’t,” Saeki said gently. “I know you feel guilty about it. You’ve grown so much.”
“No, I haven’t! I might do it again if you liked someone more than me.”
“You wouldn’t.” Yuu quietly joined the discussion. “I know for two reasons. First, Saeki-san would hate that. Second, you’re beating yourself up about what you did. Not like someone who apologizes and then does it again, but like someone who has turned themselves around and hates how they once were. What do you think, Touko?”
