Walked down Clay Head Trail on Block Island which emerges into the ocean and is only accessible by this trail.

Wish I had brought my bathing suit because folks were out there taking a dip in the ocean.

Absolutely stunning weather and views as I expected. Loving all this island has to offer.

Walked up past Sachem Pond to visit North Lighthouse and see the very tip of Block Island as it exists today. Haven’t been here in 25 years and it’s still as I remember it.

Heading back to Cambridge tomorrow and back to my usual coffee place.

Stopped by the Southeast Lighthouse while visiting Block Island. This time I got to take the tour inside. I haven’t been here since I was 15.

The lighthouse was built in 1875 and, as you can see, is quite the structure. It once had 300 feet of land in front of it, but natural erosion wore away until it was down to 50 feet.

In 1993, they picked up the entire 2,000-ton structure and moved it back on rails 300 feet, which at the time gained national press.

The views from the top are incredible; you can see the entire island all the way to the mainland.

It has an enormous first-order Fresnel lens and remains in operation today.

Highly recommend visiting this landmark if you ever find yourself on Block Island.

I’m always in awe at this sight. I’m on Block Island for a week, staying on the south end of the island with absolutely no light pollution and an 8% waning moon (new moon on Sunday). Looking up tonight, I see thousands of crisp stars, nebulas, and a distinct Milky Way band.

Obviously, my iPhone camera can’t do it justice.

I asked my wife what the ancients must have thought, and she replied, “They named them.”
