It was unfortunately far away, but seeing this bird in Bavaria at all means a lot to me.

🇺🇸 The black-throated diver (Gavia arctica) is a sleek and powerful diving bird that breeds in the northern taiga and tundra zones of Europe and Asia and winters along coasts and large lakes. It measures 58–77 centimeters in length with a wingspan of up to 135 centimeters and weighs around 2–3 kilograms. In winter, black-throated divers appear in their subtle non-breeding (eclipse) plumage, with brown tones and a pale throat — elegant, but understated. In contrast, their breeding plumage is strikingly beautiful, featuring a black throat patch with fine white striping and bold contrast patterns. They are excellent divers, using their strong legs to pursue fish underwater, often disappearing for long periods before resurfacing far from the dive point.

🇩🇪 Der Prachttaucher (Gavia arctica) ist ein eleganter, kraftvoller Tauchvogel, der in den nördlichen Taiga- und Tundragebieten Europas und Asiens brütet und an Küsten sowie großen Seen überwintert. Er wird 58–77 Zentimeter lang, erreicht eine Flügelspannweite von bis zu 135 Zentimetern und wiegt etwa 2–3 Kilogramm. Im Winter zeigt er sich im eher schlichten Schlichtkleid, braun gefärbt mit heller Kehle. Im Prachtkleid hingegen ist er außergewöhnlich schön: mit schwarzem Kehlfleck, feinen weißen Linien und starkem Kontrast. Prachttaucher sind hervorragende Taucher, die mit ihren weit hinten angesetzten Beinen Fische unter Wasser verfolgen und oft weit entfernt wieder auftauchen.

Diver dating? Went for one of my favourite walks on Monday 22nd and spotted a couple of birds on the water. After a long zoom photo to try to ID them, I managed to walk to their location where they allowed me to photograph them in all their breeding plumage glory, something I've wanted to see and photograph for a long time. I came across this beautiful Black Throated Diver while trying out trout-fishing. It was a bit vary of me and didn’t come as close as I liked, but fortunately still close enough for a decent shot.
A few days later it (or one of it‘s group) came really close, but I unfortunately didn’t have my camera with me then.
First time I got pictures but no fish, second time fish and no pictures, so it evens out in the end.
