Hey, its everyone's favorite trans skater gyal here to request some assistance. Y'all helped me so much last year in being able to attend Playtopia, after being laid off and having to return to living with my conservative African parents, and I am eternally grateful as that trip also greatly saved my life in a very dark period.

For context, I live in Zimbabwe, a country with a horrible track record for LGBTQIA+ peoples. See:

• If you've followed me or you just listen to queer African voices, you should know by now that life just isn't easy at all.

After that trip to CPT last year, and the support of some angels on the fedi, I found the courage and means to finally start hrt as of this month  . This has been so amazing and healing for me, but some new problems have begun to arise. The subtle and overt threats of violence from my father have begun to grow in weight, all while my mother enables him and looks away as he verbally abuses me. It is getting a bit too much now, and I really have no other family I can turn to.

Just writing this out is exhausting. But I need to leave, before they start noticing the physical changes and I have begun to come to terms with the fact that I will be estranged from my family. I was already outed once in 2022 when my aunt found my instagram, and I cannot risk going through that trauma again.

With that said, I am trying to save up at least 3 months of rent in another city, and then eventually to leave the country for some time while I figure this all out. The world is really not kind to black women and trans folk and I have had no work since the year started, and I am just at a loss now.

I am hoping to be able to leave home by the end of April, but preparation starts now, this includes:

• Visiting the area to go view places
• Getting funds for the deposit
• Internet, water, electricity planning

Late March Update: Okay woah! Thank you all so much for the support! I've been doing a bit more research and have expended the dates and goal:

• Have enough for 3 months of rent + Deposit
• Afford my flights/bus as I will have to travel a bit to reach my destination.

My reasoning is that I cannot safely come back again after leaving this time. I am likely to become estranged and will have to fend for myself. With the amount raised so far I can begin reaching out to landlords and secure a deposit so once again thank you all so much !. I am quite scared doing but at this point I dream of actually living my life freely (even if it means sleeping on the floor for a bit and survive off my savings), so thank you once again
