**Melody Anderson.** Bad episode written by Glen A. Larson, who had clearly just seen Animal House. Some “wild” and “crazy” students (who appear to be in their 30s!!) turn to illegal gambling to raise funds for special needs kids. A crook (Val Bisoglio) rips them off. The story doesn’t make a lot of sense. BJ now has some pretty card-shark skills. The track-car chase at the end (on snowy roads) is pretty cool. Second dud episode is what has otherwise been an enjoyable first season. _Apr 1979: Aired by NBC on Saturdays after CHiPs, before Supertrain. Against it: The Love Boat (ABC), CBS Saturday Movie (CBS)._ 4/10

**Lance LeGault, A Martinez.** Written by Frank Lupo and Christopher Crowe, this plays like a proto-A-Team adventure, and it does a lot to deepen BJ’s backstory and explain why he does what he does. It opens with a high-jacking, a clifftop confrontation and some impressive stuntwork with a helicopter. Some shots clearly show Greg Evigan hanging off the chopper as it flies along. All very impressive. And none of this is part of the actual a-story! That starts later in the episode when BJ’s former Vietnam unit ask him to help them liberate stolen gold bars from a mobster’s fortified mansion. A plan that goes wrong and ends with a lot of bullets flying. A whole lot of bullets. It’s a good episode. The best one in the series so far. _April 1979: NBC aired BJ and the Bear in the middle hour of Saturday prime time after CHiPs and before Supertrain. Against it, ABC had The Love Boat, while CBS aired The CBS Saturday Movie._ 8/10

B.J. and the Bear 1x06 "Lobo's Revenge" review by RikerDonegal
**Katherine Moffat.** This is a very funny episode with a decent story, teleplay by Michael Sloan. Claude Akins is back for a third time as the corrupt Sheriff Lobo, with Mills Watson also back for a third time as the inept Deputy Perkins. It’s a smart idea to have a recurring baddie. Makes it easier to generate stories, rather than always have BJ stumble into trouble. Instead, the baddie can generate the story. And that’s what happens here when Lobo kidnaps Bear as a part of an elaborate plot to frame BJ for bank robbery. All the early scenes of Perkins trying to kidnap the chimp are hilarious. Once BJ does return to Orly County to get Bear back, the show is on familiar ground. There’s a pretty girl (Katherine Moffat) and BJ must work under the radar to outwit the mean ol’ sheriff before he winds up in jail himself. Two chases involving the truck. The one at the end is impressive. As usual, some familiar songs on the soundtrack. _Apr 1979: NBC aired BJ and the Bear in the middle hour of Saturday prime time after CHiPs and before Supertrain. Dracula! Plays like a live-action Scooby Doo episode with an impressive cast. Pamela Hensley, George Lazenby, John Carradine, Danny Glover, and Jack Ging are all out and about on a dark and stormy night with Transylvanian coffins and a vampire and dead bodies on every corner. Bodies that are drained of blood, natch. Michael Sloan wrote most of the episodes of The Hardy Boys Mysteries, and more than anything, this feels like a lost episode from that show. It’s creepy but in a light, adventurous way. It’s a fun episode. The highlight is Pamela Hensley. Words don’t do her beauty justice. _Feb-Mar 1979: NBC aired BJ and the Bear in the middle hour of Saturday prime time after CHiPs and before The Rockford Files. *Mary Louise Weller.* You can’t fault this show for invention. This script written by Michael Sloan finds a way to get BJ involved with a deadly biological agent that, if released from a cannister, could kill everyone in the state! It still manages to be light-hearted and fun. The stunt driving late in the episode, with scores of police cars in a mad chase, is impressive. The large number of well-known songs on the soundtrack is remarkable. Probably one reason that the show never received an official DVD release. 7/10
