Some #birdfeedernews on a wild, wet n windy day in Perthshire #weather #gardenbirds #gardenbirdwatch #scotland #rspb
On #birdfeedernews this week, we are inundated by Siskins! No bad thing and they're squabbling with the Goldfinches, also no bad thing but, eating through a small fortune 😆 #photography #birdphotography #naturephotography #gardenbirds #scotland #perthandKinross

Good morning. I have arrived in my office and looked at the bird feeder station outside to discover that the prototype dishes that J made and has placed out there do have some slight issues.

After a night of wind and rain, the one that is meant to be a water bath is now empty of water, while the one that is meant to be a seed tray is still full of seeds - but also full of water.

Drama out by the laurel bush near the feeder station this morning as a female sparrowhawk surprise attacked (and missed) a lucky great tit. Then she hovered above momentarily then dived into the bush lower down to have a little explore inside it.

Two sparrows departed at high speed, no doubt with adrenaline pumping, while she was in there. Then I could just see her tail as she decided to wait awhile and see if anything came to her. It didn't after three or four minutes of waiting, so obviously feeling the gig was up, she was on her way.

In other news, J has made some feeder/water dish things for the garden which we are testing at home first. We've seen the first use of both this morning after putting them out two days ago. Sadly, nothing bloody using it while I had the camera trained on it for a quarter of an hour.

The Turkey Trainer

When the Wild Turkey jumps up onto the platform feeder, it gets the red tennis ball.

When it grazes under the platform feeder it is left alone.

Operant conditioning works.

Eternal vigilance is the price of feeder peace.

Another dreich day in Perthshire with a Siskin invasion at the #birdfeeder #birdfeedernews #birds #birdphotography #gardenbirds #BTO #GBW #RSPB

Apart from the usual visitors to the feeders and garden this morning we've had a couple of Collared Doves
So far as well that's:
Sparrows
a Robin
Blue Tits
Blackbirds
Wood pigeons

Magpies in flight, but not landing

Good morning. The Spring feelings are rising among the robins. There is one robin that obviously considers the bird feeding station as their territory. Exclusively.

Another robin dared to stand on the edge of the seed tray, and I swear that I did not see exactly what happened next - there was just a blur and a residual impression left in my brain of 'something happened in the last 0.025 seconds'.

Something shot out of the laurel bush, possibly a laser beam of some sort (but a duller colour one than you'd see on a Star Wars film) and then disappeared off out of my field of view. The robin standing on the seed tray edge had also disappeared.

There wasn't a pfftt and and a bunch of feathers floating to the ground, so I think it was a case of the invader seeing the weapon being fired and getting the f out of there fast. The dull coloured laser followed it.

There's drama out there right now. Going to keep watching.

I've been staring out of the patio window:
Sparrows
Blue tits
Robin

Nothing else yet, maybe they're waiting until the drizzle stops completely.
