A real piece of work
Daily writing prompt What’s a piece of media (book, movie, song) that changed how you see the world? View all responsesHow I see the world or how I approach the world? They sound the same but they’re not.
What piece of media… another singular noun. Another ‘favorite’ question. What’s wrong with pieces of media? What’s wrong with lists?
Off the top of my head, and with no regard to a change to how I see the world or approach the world – and with no respect to the prompt’s limit of one “piece”, here goes.
Mad Magazine
Mother Jones magazine
The Grapes of Wrath
To Kill a Mockingbird
12 Angry Men
Pretty much any horror movie*
Soundtrack to the original production of Hair
Folk music
Diane Arbus
National Geographic magazine for the pictures
Playboy magazine for the same reason
For an even dozen I thought I’d add a song and the first one that came to mind was One Tin Soldier. I don’t know why. It was immediately followed by a bunch more but I’m sticking with the first one.
* If you’re in a frightful situation with other people, don’t split up. If the house looks scary, don’t go into it. If you’re being chased by anyone or anything, don’t run upstairs. If you’re forced to fight that anyone or anything and you happen to clonk it on the head with a shovel and knock it out, don’t drop the shovel and back away, use the shovel to chop off the thing’s head and then run away. If the lights are off, turn them on and if the lights don’t work, leave immediately, don’t explore because if you explore you’ll inevitably drop your flashlight. If the book looks ancient and like it might be made from human flesh, don’t open it.
