I completely forgot to mention that I made it to WHY. Final distance is 357km in let's call it 3,25 days. It was lots of fun, unsure if I can manage the way back as soon as next week though
Also my tires have just enough profile to not be instantly slippery on a wet road, the modder and sand on the WHY terrain are a challenge…
The road behind. The road ahead. Breathtaking.
5km until bed, not a cm too soon. Tomorrow will be the last leg of the trip to WHY, but you may ask „@thegcat you still have a sea to cross how will you get there?“. Well, the Dutch have made driving and cycling over water possible by installing the Houtribdijk between Flevoland and Noord-Holland. It’s the somewhat think dark line on the horizon, if Mastodon doesn’t compress the image too much you might see a lorry and a dozen cars behind it (going right to left) pretty much in the middle.
Let’s just hope I don’t get headwinds, 26km with nothing around might get tiresome quickly
Sparing no effort in service of what can at best be described as a shitpost and besting strong headwinds (so strong… who could have predicted that a fietspad along the coast might be windy, right?), I bring you the highest elevation of Flevoland: the hilltop on which the lighthouse of Urk is built, towering at an impressive 8m above sea level. (Look it up, the Tim traveller also made a video)
Here starts the Land of near to no elevation but all the wind! 😂
First 30km done for today. I left the hotel pretty late because it was so comfy, and I needed some time to recover from yesterday.
The route today includes a ferry! There’s space for 12 bikes so it’s probably pretty small. FCFS is implemented with tokens you grab when arriving
It’s also somewhat windy. My route on the other side goes pretty much in the direction the wind hose doesn’t point to
That also means I’m nearing wind-struck #why2025 ain’t I?
