Question for Friday #BikeNite

Yesterday morning I decided to just put my winter bib tights (Red White Apparel) on first thing in the morning, knowing I was going for a ride later. I reasoned that I would then be all ready to go without thinking what a hassle it would be to get changed later. And that it would result in a more comfortable ride, which it did. I have to admit that deciding to wear them under my jeans for the morning was not the best decision I could have made, but it was undoubtedly better choice for the ride once I took the jeans off.

What about you lot? Do you wear your chamois padded shorts or bibs as a matter of course or do you make that decision based on the length of ride you're planning?

For us, I think a ride of over an hour is more comfortable with a chamois, where less time doesn't necessarily need it. That's around the 20 km mark.

We decided that bibs were the way to go for us, but there's no question that they are more of an inconvenience to put on and take off. Are there any who wear padded shorts or tights and have found them to be just as comfortable as bibs?

Steven feels that having a pair with chamois that are just like underwear would be the ideal solution, requiring basically no changing, just wearing them under jeans. Are there any who do that? And if so, are there brands that you prefer?

#bikeTooter this week's answer to a question not asked #bikeNite
I see a call, no message, from ??? spam? No, that number is familiar. I search...
It's the bike shop owner I knew pretty darned well (not Biblically, folks, but pretty well...) some years ago. What? Butt dial?
Then I get a message, from his partner, asking if I have so and so's number and I can call her to know more.
Well, I'm at chorus so I message and no I don't have the number ...
I hope she keeps answering his phone b/c today I find out he died MOnday (Parkinson's complications, I assume). A bike person sent an email asking for us to add to his contributions to cycling.
How can we celebrate the lives of leaders in teh cycling community when they leave us?

Hey all, I’m back in the States watching people ride by on a bike boulevard. It’s time to ask new #BikeNite questions for this Friday.

Also, Happy Earth Day!

Next #BikeNite is this Friday at 4pm Pacific standard time (UTC-8)!

This is our weekly call for questions. Reply with any you'd like me to add to the discussion on Friday. Please add the BikeNitePQ hashtag so it's easier to find a Proposed Question. There is room for more!

(BikeNite is a Q&A type discussion on the Fediverse.) #BikeTooter cc @bikenite

Nearest tool for this. Lol. (Crank Bros. Tool purchased on recommendation of #BikeNite). New furniture supports swapped in! Back to sewing... probably tomorrow. #sewing #furniture
@ascentale @Pionir @bikenite A6 #BikeNite No specific recommendation but be careful of any with image stabilisation features. The micro four thirds Lumix I bought for this very purpose turns out to be not best suited as the IS stuff is loose and rattles until the camera is powered up.
I'll now only carry a camera if I'm specifically going out to shoot. And if I'm doing that it may as well be the DSLR.
@ascentale @elliek @bikenite A5 #BikeNite There's a fair few of these kinda setups but I've never used one. Surely it's just luck of the draw if your stolen bike and anyone who finds it stumbles upon the same stolen bike service?
As an aside, the woman that won Dales Divide the other week had her bike stolen on her way home. Apparently, local to where it happened bikepacking bag makers Restrap, made use of their underworld ne'er-do-well contacts to find out what who had it and got it recovered.
@ascentale @cainmark @bikenite A1 Checking into #BikeNite late from nr Liverpool, UK. There are usually ways and means to get through a blocked route, and more than happy to climb, carry, jump or scramble to find a way. Or I'll look at the map and work something out, but it's usually more fun to try and wing it.

felt a sliver of satisfaction about my Brompton folding bike when I saw this sign on the door at B&H photo/video in Manhattan.

@rand @ascentale @bikenite I get it. I bought my Bridgestone XO-5 from them and I'd show the sticker except I had to sell it when I first became disabled.

I miss that place being my local. #BikeNite

@meganL @ascentale @bikenite Thank you, idk if I ever went there after we bought our mountain bikes from them. We were in Castro Valley at the time. Times keep a changing. #BikeNite
