Photo Dump: Hawaii 2025-26

Every year we go to the Big Island to visit family; the Island is one of those special places for me that is just so picturesque with its vibrant flora and fauna! So I thought I’d share my photos from this year’s trip (during New Year’s!) with you here.

(Just click on the large image to see it in full view. There are thumbnails at the bottom of each section to click through as well.)

If you’d like to visit my photos from prior years, you can do that here on Pinterest.

Day 1: Flowers and Animals (and Drinks!)

Day 2: Kaumana Caves & Rainbow Falls (Hilo)

Photos sometimes don’t do the scenery justice… so here’s a video of the Wailuku River leading up to Rainbow Falls:

Day 3a: Some more flowers…

Day 3b: Hiking toward the Puako Petroglyph Archaeological Preserve…

Along the Kohala Coast, the 223-acre Puakō Petroglyph Archaelogical Preserve boasts more than 3,000 ancient petroglyphs, or kiʻi pōhaku, lava rock carvings etched into stone, dating back to 1200 AD. (source)

On the way to the heart of the petroglyph field, we traveled a fairytale-esque forested trail…

Day 3c: Holoholokai Beach Park (adjacent to the petroglyphs)

Holoholokai Beach Park

At the water’s edge, I almost stepped on a hawksbill turtle sunning himself on the sand–he blended in so well with the surrounding lava rocks I didn’t see him until I was really close!

Day 4: New Year’s Eve!

We saw more turtles at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park (and had supper at the Harbor House at Honokohau Marina).

On New Year’s Day I pulled out my tarot cards to do a very enlightening New Year reading for myself… 🙂

Days 5 & 6: More Nature!

Heading home…

Hawksbill Turtle: Up Close and Personal
I named him Rocky, since he blended in so well with the surrounding rocks—I almost stepped on him as I was walking toward the water’s edge at Holoholokai Beach Park! 😭
