For those with Macbooks who have used #BetterTouchTool - real quick and simple responses: is it worth the $25 registration fee? How good is it? Like Raycast I haven't get really gotten to play around a huge amount with the app but I just get the feeling that it's extremely powerful and will be very useful once I set aside the time to actually mess with it.

How many of you use #LaTeX, and also use #BetterTouchTool or some other kind of macro manager? Would you like something to make your life easier?

I've been using BTT forever to do window tiling and system control tasks. When I started grad school, I decided to do all my homework typeset in LaTeX, because my professors seemed nice and did not deserve to be subjected to my handwriting. This, of course, was tedious af, and I went in search of tools.

Long story short, I hated most of the LaTeX editors out there, and I'm now using TeX Shop and my own custom batch of macros that, I believe, radically improve my LaTeX writing speed. For example:

`…i` gives "\(\implies\)"
`,,,f` gives "`\frac{}{}`" with the text insertion point in the numerator
`;;;m` gives the `begin` and `end` statements for `bmatrix`, with the insertion point set appropriately

...and more. Piles of them, moderately well organized, used in conjunction with a short `.sty` file containing some macros that come in handy for the classes I'm taking. Everything is optimized for the stuff I do most commonly on a Dvorak keyboard, but it's easy to edit to suit your needs.

Anyway, is anyone interested enough that I should take a couple hours to tidy it up and throw it on GitHub?

Something I often miss on #Linux that's doable on #macOS is something like #BetterTouchTool.

BTT is magic. If your input device has buttons, you can use BTT to make them do damn near anything. I have it set so I hold ctrl and click the left or right mouse buttons to switch between Spaces. The first thing I always do when I set it up on a fresh install is map the scrollwheel button to activate Expose, showing me all the open windows and Spaces. But there are some folks who use it to fire off macros that can do pretty much anything you might want them to do.

The best I can find on Linux is Input Remapper. It works, but is ridiculously limited by comparison. Firstly, you can't combine keyboard and mouse combos, so I can't replicate ctrl+Left/Right mouse to switch between desktops. But also, you can only autoload one preset per device. So I can set it so that mouse button 4+Left switches to the desktop to the left, and so on, and I can map clicking the scroll wheel to Super+W to show all the windows, but I can't have them all active at the same time. So it's largely useless.

I often wish the guy behind BTT could knock out a port for Linux. I'd pay for it all over again if he did.

@tewha Mapping Globe/fn to shortcuts was not possible, the key being somewhat "reserved" for system shortcuts. You had to rely on utilities like #BetterTouchTool to map those.
If #macos #Tahoe now allows this (I haven’t tested because I only have the beta inside a #utm VM), then this is great news!

@_DigitalWriter_ Auf dem Mac verwende ich das #BetterTouchTool, um aus der Capslock-Taste ein Hyperkey zu machen.

...denn wer braucht schon Capslock? :-D

💡 If you're on #macOS26 and want to access the new clipboard manager built into #Spotlight with a single keypress (instead of CMD+Space followed by CMD+4), you can use #BetterTouchTool to automate this.

❓Does anyone know if there's a built-in way to accomplish this? 🤔

@llo_ai thanks so much for creating BTT. It has always been the “missing glue" in so many parts of my daily Mac workflow. I don't know what I'd do without it, haha 😅
