Coast to coast… Weekly Recap 9/1/2025

The furthest distance I’ve ever traveled is from coast to coast within the US — Virginia to California. I hope to change that one day. I’d like to get out of this little box and cross some oceans.

Yes, it’s short answer day. Give me a break. It’s a holiday!

Good morning and happy Monday, friends! Additionally, happy Labor Day and happy start to September!

This marks my first completed week of school! And now, for your reading pleasure, a short rant on higher education:

One of the courses required for my degree is an introduction to programming. The objective of the class, as I understand it, is to achieve a surface-level understanding of Python. Although I’ve always had at least a passing interest to that topic, it’s been years since I’ve ever looked at anything in the programming world and I certainly have never studied Python specifically. As part of the work required for the class, I have probably watched at least eight hours of video so far — some lecture, some not — and unfortunately learned absolutely nothing. I got a little impatient, so I found a top-rated YouTube video (something like a 12-hour Python Bootcamp) and watched a few minutes of it. In that short amount of time, I learned more than all the classroom hours combined.

And I guess that’s always been my gripe with higher education. I could either pay to take classes at an institution and learn inefficiently… or I could learn for free on my own at a faster pace.

So what’s the point? Well, I’m giving it a shot. Hopefully the ratio of (invested time):(actual learning) shifts as we get deeper into things. I’ll keep you updated on how all that goes. End of rant.

In other news, I posted an article last week on the topic of Paradoxes in Spiritual Practice. My intention was to keep it rather short, but… it’s a good chunk of words. Go check it out!

Friday night was coven night. One of our students taught a class on making besoms and we all rolled up our sleeves and did some crafting.

I think they all came out great… it’s really interesting how different everyone’s style is. Can you guess which one is mine?

Over the weekend, Selene and I traveled to Palm Bay to do some work with our spiritual family. That’s about all I can say on the topic. On the way back, we stopped for some lunch and tried a new Mexican restaurant.

It might look good, but it actually was somewhat disappointing.

For dinner, we decided to be adventurous and try one of our local pizza places. It also was disappointing. Sorry, but I did not take a picture of the pizza for photographic evidence.

Now we’re on a quest to remedy the lackluster food of the previous day.

Well, that’s all for now! I’m still adjusting to this whole “having homework” thing, but I’ll have more for your soon. Stay tuned!

> the #DevOps space remains relatively immature in how it enforces correctness and consistency.

> In application development, many of these pitfalls have already been addressed by encoding invariants and domain knowledge into the program. By leveraging compilers, developers quickly verify useful and critical properties

Does anyone out there have broom crafting guide they'd recommend?

I know a dirt basic method and wouldn't mind being pointed towards a source to study and learn from.
