"I want the people in my paintings not to be a specific person but a specific type of person. So I am consciously avoiding ‘portraits’ in my paintings. For me, a painting becomes alive through the viewer who encounters the image later on. And for the viewer, it becomes possible to make the painting their own if they recognize figures from their own life experience. So I try to leave the figures as open as possible while being as specific as necessary."

The self-documentation of artists in web publications is not yet archived in an adequate way. This is where our #ArtDocArchive project comes in.

For the prototype, the focus is on web pages and Instagram as the most common use cases currently. We focus on Berlin based artists.

This infographic shows the process.

Web pages are stored using web archiving tools (Art Doc Web) and then converted into structured data using customized parsers (Art Doc Parser).

Related to Instagram, the EU rights to personal data, are now allowing users to export their own archive in an open standard (e.g. JSON), which they can donate to the project. These exports will be processed and visualized in the project (Art Doc Visualization).

Für den Prototyp wird sich auf Webseiten und Instagram als die derzeit häufigsten Anwendungsfälle konzentriert. Webseiten werden mit Webarchiving Tools gespeichert (Art Doc Web) und dann mit angepassten Parsern in strukturierte Daten überführt (Art Doc Parser). Bezogen auf Instagram werden die in den letzten Jahren in der EU entstandenen rechtlichen Ansprüche auf Datenexport genutzt, die Nutzer*innen erlauben, ihr eigenes Archiv zu exportieren. Diese Exporte werden mit Machine Learning verarbeitet und visualisiert (Art Doc Visualization).

Next month will be the premiere of Ouroboros installation at Ars Electronica, an outcome of STARTS #RepairingThePresent residency #CircularRecords with Fara Peluso

Ouroboros speaks to the cyclical nature of material and of human relationships with the environment. The ouroboros is a symbol of renewal and rebirth, the emblem of chaos around a world of imposed order.

As industrialized activity exerts order on the planet, the impulse of the changing climate will impose a global supra-human chaos on human existence. A multi-media installation combining sculpture, sound and video, Ouroborous juxtaposes new material with bodies of human and algae, framed in a landscape transitioning from extraction.
