This mug is shaping up to be a sturdy one. I’ve been thickening my handles lately so they sit more comfortably in the hand. I realized the mugs I reach for most, made by others, tend to have a certain softness and girth to the handle, so that’s the direction I’m following.

It’s all small adjustments over time, the kind that add up over decades. The goal is a pot that feels special to its owner, but not so delicately precious that it ends up sitting untouched on a shelf. #pottery #beautility

Lamps!💡 I got a commission for a batch of lamps a couple of years ago but they wanted very plain glaze, so not much room for expression. This is my first time making lamps and decorating them my way. They’re a special order for a collector in Texas. She sent me photos of past pots I’ve made to give me an idea of how she wanted each one to look. I hope she’s satisfied with the end result. #pottery #cermics #FunctionalPottery #beautility

I was invited to make pieces for an upcoming ewer show. The concept was inspired by the gallery owner’s experience beginning to #garden with his family, enjoying the bounty daily, and using #handmade ewers to drizzle olive oil and vinegar over fresh veggies. I love making pots that pour, so the prompt was a welcome challenge, allowing me to combine multiple elements that I’ve practiced over the years. How would you use these pots?

I don’t make many plates, for no good reason, really. For a potter, it doesn’t get much more gratifying than producing a stack of ware that people will use time and time again to nourish themselves. Spirals and radial patterns mimic so much of the natural world from galaxies to sunflowers to primal representations of the sun. #pottery #ceramics #handmade #beautility #FunctionalPottery #crafts
@potterybyosa Yes, you may not have invented it but you really embody the meaning with your pottery. Maybe you can be a spokesperson for #Beautility.
Here’s how the scoops turned out. They work really well with my kitchen crocks and the handles feel nice to hold. #beautility #functionalpottery #pottery #ceramics #keramik #terrasigillata #handmade
Just unloaded the kiln and everything came out great including these jars. They’ll make great kitchen storage for #compost, cookies, rice, oats—or perhaps the most cheerful burial urn you’ve ever seen. I’ll keep the one that came out with a slightly troublesome lid and offer the one that came out perfectly. #beautility #utilitarianclay #ceramics #keramik #pottery
Working on a pair of #compost crocks (among other things) to hopefully be fired by the end of the month. We’ve outgrown our old one so one of these will be the replacement. They each hold somewhere around a gallon/4L. The double handles make them easy to carry & dump, and the lids fit snuggly. They’re sturdy pieces of functional ware, which also serve as decorative objects when not in use. I’m excited to see them glazed. #beautility #functionalpottery #gardening #permaculture #ceramics #pottery
