In the 80s we had an Apple IIe clone at home, with an Amdek 300 amber monitor. Also had Beagle Bros. software including some of their images, which I had only seen in monochrome amber until a couple of days ago when I saw it in color on 8bittees.

Since my own cat used to do the same back in the day, I got the T-shirt and a little bit of my youth back 😊

Question to those familiar with the Apple II: back in the day, I used Applesoft BASIC compilers (Einstein and TASC I think), but they were designed for an Apple II+ with 48K so did not take advantage of all the RAM my IIe clone had.

Was there an Applesoft compiler that could use the full 64K or ram and even the 64K on the expansion card? I think Beagle Bros had a compiler, but I don't know much about it. Any suggestions welcome.

Finally got around to imaging some very old SCSI hard drives from my #apple2 gs which contains some of my very early programming work. Figured I'd upload it to #github for posterity. This #videogame is called Swamp Land written in #applesoft #BASIC and was inspired by #BeagleBros text character animation based games like TextTrain. I wrote it over a weekend back around 1980 and was the first thing I was really proud of.

Being polyglot in programming languages back in the early days of personal computing was pretty much a given. Especially on the Apple ][. DOS shell, then Prodos, Pascal, FORTRAN, Logo, assembler (and monitor ROM routines) and of course Basic, in a few flavors, from woz Integer Basic, Applesoft Basic to Beagle Bros Basic. And compilers.

In a reddit thread discussing an old Beagle Bros sticker attached to the default computery sticker location for every schoolchild -- the front of a floppy disk storage box -- a former tech support employee of the company chimed in in the comments and shared a nice little glimpse of the company from the inside.
