What a lovely song. I don't think it has appeared on an official #BeachBoys album, so all we have¹ is this barebones studio recording with Brian Wilson's bold and vulnerable falsetto.

The following heartbreaking fact makes this song resonate in a very special way: not long after Brian Wilson sung "you mustn't sleep your life away" on this song, his mental health would reach such a low point that he would enter a "hibernation" period (his words) of about 3 years, during which he would spend most of his time in his bedroom.

The way I think about it is that the general topic of depression/wanting to stay in bed, which was on his mind and would end up robbing him of three years of his life (and cause him much suffering afterwards, as it had already started to do), he temporarily turned into something beautifully joyful and serene...
