Explorer vases by Jaime Hayon for BD Barcelona Design

Dezeen Showroom: Spanish designer Jaime Hayon has created a collection of colourful ceramic vases with rounded shapes for furniture brand BD Barcelona Design.

Named Explorer, the vase collection is a continuation of a series of Explorer side tables Hayon designed for the brand.

Explorer is available in three variations, each of which features colourful elements combined into a sculptural vase.

Hayon designed the vases to be both sculptural and functional

One model stands on three white ceramic spheres while another is elevated from the ground by three legs, which extend beyond the height of the centre vase to become separate thin vases.

"The materialisation of these vases requires great skill because of the apparent contradiction of joining a ceramic rounded piece to another rounded shape," said Hayon.

The Explorer vases have a glossy finish

BD Barcelona Design describes the vases as "not just functional, but sculpturally dynamic".

"The rounded shapes are matched up really well with the shades and colours chosen," the brand continued.

The Explorer vases come in a combination of red, green, blue and white colours and have a glossy finish.

Table B by Konstantin Grcic for BD Barcelona Design

Dezeen Showroom: German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic has updated BD Barcelona Design's iconic Table B in two new widths.

Award-winning Table B is one of Spanish furniture firm BD Barcelona Design's most celebrated table designs and received a prestigious Red Dot Award in 2011.

Table B comes in two new lengths

Grcic has redesigned Table B in two new tabletop widths of 70 and 90 centimetres for both indoor and outdoor use.

The 70-centimetre tabletop model is a desk design that will suit those who work from home.

A 70 centimetre desk version is available

Table B has different standard lengths and can also be made to measure, with the longest available length being six metres with whole profiles.

"Rather than dating, Table B has always looked to the future," said BD Barcelona Design of Grcic's updated models.

The designs are further diversified with new table legs options, available in cast aluminium, steel rod and wood.

Explorer dining table by Jaime Hayon for BD Barcelona

Dezeen Showroom: a slender oval tabletop overhangs the chunky central pedestal of the Explorer dining table, which Jaime Hayon has designed for furniture brand BD Barcelona.

The Explorer is a continuation of Hayon's wider Explorer collection, produced by BD Barcelona in 2019.

Instead of the traditional four legs, it relies on one central support to maximise space and comfort for sitters.

BD Barcelona has launched the Explorer dining table

"Now more than ever we spend a lot of time in our homes eating, working and sharing moments," said Hayon.

"The Explorer dining table was born from the idea of inclusion, eliminating the obstacles of the table by getting rid of the side legs, trying to create a spacious and comfortable space but being sculpturally strong at the same time."

It features an oval tabletop that balances on one central support

According to Hayon, the design's sculptural yet playful aesthetic takes cues from jelly bean sweets.

"This childlike inspiration has at the same time a very elegant beauty, which generally is characterised in my designs," he said.

It is available with a circular or oval top

The Explorer dining table is available with an oval top and a length of either 180 or 220 centimetres. It also comes in a circular version with a diameter of 130 centimetres.

The range is available in three colourways, with different shades used across the tabletop, body and base.
