One of the leading runners during Batrace 2025 in Cape Town. In the background you can see the rest of the field coming down Devil's Peak.

Shot from a tripod with a Canon EF 24-105. A long 20s exposure to capture the runner's headlight through the whole viewfield, but also to allow for light trails on the mountain. The mountain on the right gets straylight from floodlights installed on Table Mountain. I used an f-stop around f8 to allow both the fore ground and parts of the background to be in focus.

Image stabilisation is turned off, because it would cause bluriness in longexposures. Long exposure noise reduction is also of, because I didn't want the additional processing time.

Runners at the first checkpoint during Batrun 2025.

Shot with a medium aperture on the wide angle end of my EF 24-105 to capture a bit more depth of field, as I expected the auto focus to have problems in these light conditions. What looks like multiple exposures are actually the flashes of other photographers. I placed my camera on a hay bale and used a little longer times to allow for more movement and light trails to be captured.
