During All Saints Day last week we took a peek inside Lisbon's Basílica da Estrela (Royal Basilica and Convent of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus), located in the Parish of Estrela across the street from the Jardim da Estrela on the 28E trolley line. The lights coming through the dome and the incense smoke made for some amazing shots!

The basilica was constructed by Queen Maria I in the years following the Great Earthquake of 1755, and as such remains in its original form. Construction began in 1779 and was completed in 1789. It features a large dome (not pictured from the outside here) and two bell towers flanking the entrance. Inside, the basilica is lavishly decorated with colorful marble and baroque features. The tomb of Queen Maria I is also located within the basilica's transept.
