'We are in a crisis': 1 in 10 Torontonians now rely on a food bank, new report finds | CBC News
> The annual Who's Hungry report is calling on all levels of government to step up with haste
And this doesn't mean funding food banks.
That doesn't pay the rent, clothe the kids, …
We need a real anti-poverty program, like #BasicIncomeNow
The problem of one who is starving is not that they are eating too much, it is that they do not have enough to eat.
The problem of one who is poor is not that they are spending too much, it is that they do not have enough to spend.
This isn't rhetorical. Give me a number. How much of my life am I allowed to rest before I have rightly earned death by starvation? Clearly detractors of UBI think it is less than 100%, so where is the line?
Unpaid labor is still labor. Just because something doesn't generate revenue, that doesn't mean it isn't worth doing, nor does it mean that anyone who chooses to spend their life doing it deserves to starve.
"If a society’s economy is generating enough wealth that no one in that society needs to be in poverty, then people being left in poverty is a political choice."
